LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — Giving storm systems a gentle nudge is the idea behind “Cloud Seeding” a technique that’s been around for decades. Cloud seeding coaxes moisture out of the atmosphere but now in an aviation first here in Nevada, scientists are sending up drones to get the job done.
“The test was a huge success,” said Co-Founder of AviSight, Mike Frechette.
Scientists with the desert research institute determine whether an unmanned aircraft can assist with cloud seeding. The fixed wing drone deploys its payload of two silver Iodine flares into the air.
